Description
Jasmine almost never comes this way.
Fresh white flowers, green lift, soft fruit and a concentrated Sambac character quite different from jasmine absolute.
The Rare Jasmine is genuine Ruh Bela from Kannauj, India — a hydrodistilled essence of fresh Jasminum sambac flowers.
This is not Jasmine Sambac Absolute.
It is not a sandalwood-based Bela attar.
It is the distilled flower itself, produced in extremely small quantities through a process that gives very little aromatic material back.
At a glance
- What it is: Pure hydrodistilled Jasminum sambac flower essence from India
- Who it’s for: Jasmine lovers, perfumers and collectors wanting to experience Sambac outside the familiar absolute
-
How to use: Fine fragrance, attars, natural perfumery, skincare formulation, aromatherapy or trace application on skin
The aroma
The first surprise is how fresh and green it feels.
There is unmistakable Sambac jasmine, but it does not immediately give the dense, heavy floral character many people associate with jasmine absolute.
The opening has brightness.
Fresh white flowers sit alongside leafy green facets and a soft fruity sweetness.
As it develops, the jasmine becomes fuller and warmer. A light creamy quality begins to appear underneath, but the material still keeps a cleaner, more open structure than an absolute.
A genuinely exclusive fragrance material, and one every fragrance lover should experience at least once.
Why it is so difficult to find
Jasmine is one of the least cooperative flowers when it comes to traditional distillation.
The fragrance industry normally works with jasmine as an absolute, where solvent extraction allows much more of the flower's aromatic material to be recovered.
Direct hydrodistillation gives very little.
According to our Kannauj distiller, genuine Ruh Bela production is under 10 kg annually, with only small quantities making their way to reputable sellers.
We have not independently verified a worldwide annual production figure, so we treat that number as the distiller's own production estimate.
What is not in question is the scale.
True distilled Sambac is a very small part of the jasmine market.
Wearing the material
Use a trace.
The opening is fresh, floral and slightly green before the jasmine becomes warmer and sweeter on skin.
There is richness, but it does not feel as thick or waxy as a typical Sambac Absolute.
If you already know jasmine absolute well, the difference is immediate.
In perfumery
Ruh Bela gives a perfumer a different side of Sambac.
It can introduce fresh jasmine lift, natural green character and floral intensity without immediately making a composition dense.
It works particularly well with:
- Sandalwood
- Oud
- Rose
- Tuberose
- Orange blossom
- Musk
- Amber
- Saffron
- Other jasmine materials
It is also worth keeping simply as a reference.
Smell it beside Jasmine Sambac Absolute and the effect of extraction becomes obvious.

What is Ruh Bela?
Bela is one of the Indian names for Jasminum sambac.
Ruh Bela refers to its concentrated distilled essence.
The process is demanding, the yield is extremely small and genuine material is produced on a scale that is tiny compared with commercial jasmine absolute.
That is why we call this one The Rare Jasmine.
The Raw Natural Collection showcases rare and exceptional oils, carefully curated from our private library. Some of these oils appear in our perfumes, while others remain untouched — each a reflection of true material craftsmanship.
